My Crochet Journey So Far

I learned to crochet when I was 16. My Great Grandmother was living with us at the time. She was a prolific crocheter. I had broken up with a boyfriend and was moping around the house. My Grandmother couldn't stand it so she sat me down and taught me how to crochet. She taught me how to crochet the granny square and let me tell you that that was the HUGEST granny square afghan that anyone has ever made! I just kept going and going and going! I slowly branched out from making afghans to making sweaters and other things. I don't intend to post patterns because these are not my original designs. I just thought it would be fun to have some sort of record of what I have made and who it went to.

October 2013-Doll Clothes

I'm making my grand daughters doll clothes for Christmas. I bought them each an 18 inch doll and refused to buy the clothes for them! So now I am making them. This is the first attempt:

This is very BRIGHT! And I used a bit bigger yarn than the pattern called for. Hopefully it will fit the doll. I haven't taken the dolls out to try on the dress. I'm hoping to make each doll 3 outfits. We will see how much time I have.

Here's the next one I made:

Here's the pattern book I'm using:

I didn't make the hat, shoes or purse. I think they would just get lost and be a waste of time.

October 2013

I made these slippers for a special someone for Christmas. I thought they turned out cute. The first one(on the right of the picture) kind of turned out a bit wonky, but when I tried it on it fits comfortably so I decided to go with it. The color is called Antique Teal. I used a light gray for the contrast color in the tie. The pattern came from this book:

I'm teaching a friend how to crochet and she wants to make headbands for her friends for Christmas. I'm not a headband wearer but I'm sure my young friend will rock these! I had my husband take a picture of it on my head and he had to make sure he got the flower! I'm definitely not rockin the band! ha!

I got the pattern from this book:

Unfortunately when I bought this book I didn't realize that the young girl on the cover is actually YOUNG! As in she has a smaller head than most adults! So I had to take the pattern home in the midst of our lesson and rewrite it all so that the headband would fit an adult sized head. This is just one headband, I'm assuming I will have to rework all of the patterns. Blah!

October 2013-Christmas gifts

I thought this color combination of red, gold and brown turned out very pretty for some friends for Christmas. This pattern was called "Wheat" because in the pattern book it was done in shades of brown and tans. It is from a pattern in this book:
