My Crochet Journey So Far

I learned to crochet when I was 16. My Great Grandmother was living with us at the time. She was a prolific crocheter. I had broken up with a boyfriend and was moping around the house. My Grandmother couldn't stand it so she sat me down and taught me how to crochet. She taught me how to crochet the granny square and let me tell you that that was the HUGEST granny square afghan that anyone has ever made! I just kept going and going and going! I slowly branched out from making afghans to making sweaters and other things. I don't intend to post patterns because these are not my original designs. I just thought it would be fun to have some sort of record of what I have made and who it went to.

Another baby cocoon

I made this for my daughter's friend. She had a boy. It didn't take long to whip this out. I hope she liked it!

Our Christmas Stockings

These have been our sockings for several years now. We had most of the family here for Christmas one year and I made everyone a stocking. Will have to make a new one for next year as we will have our 3rd grandchild in June. Can't wait to find out whether it's a boy or girl!

Baby cacoon-October, 2010

Isn't she a doll-baby? I wanted to make one of these  from the minute I saw one in a magazine. I went searching on the internet and found a free pattern and whipped this up just in time for a family friends baby to be born. She captioned this picture with "Anne Geddes baby" ha! It does look like a picture she(Anne) would do. And this baby models the cacoon and hat  beautifully!

Hat and mittens-November 09, 2010

I made these for a little boy. They are the colors of OU football. They were pretty quick and easy to make. I made them in a day. The hat took only about an hour.

BOOMER SOONER!

Hooded Bear Afghan-November 09, 2010

This is for my grandson for Christmas. It is lacking 3 rows around, but I think it will fit him just perfect. I was tired of brown!

October 25, 2010-Pocketbook Slippers

The first pattern I tried of these was so frustrating and unclear that I gave up. I went searching through all of my patterns for slippers and wasn't seeing anything that I wanted to make. So I went online and found this pattern. It was simple and each slipper took less than an hour to make. I am going to have to adjust them though. The pattern said they fit a size 9 but I'm thinking not. I wear a size 6 and they barely fit me. But I thought they turned out cute and I want to make a few more pair for different people for Christmas. I think I will have to put a note with them to let them know they are slippers though as they do look like little purses!

October 2010- Froggie Hoodie Baby Blanket

I made this for a 3 year old little boy. He's  bigger than a baby, but it is still cute enough for a 3 year old to cuddle with.

hat and fingerless gloves-October, 2010

I made these for a friend for Christmas. She freezes in her office at work and said she was going to become the crazy hat woman around the college she works at. She also said she needed some fingerless gloves. So here we go! The hat pattern is from Crochet World magazine October 2010 issue and the gloves are from an online webpage that I found. I tried to make some other gloves but the pattern just didn't work out. It was very annoying as I had almost a full glove made...but it was enormous so had to pull it all out. I like this pattern much better. You can check out the pattern here: http://beancrochets.livejournal.com/1078.html

Green Afghan-October 2010

I made this for my mom for Christmas. She has a room that she calls her "green room" and I think this will fit in perfectly. I am going to make her some slippers to go with it. It is more like a lap robe for sitting and watching TV than for a bed cover.

Christmas Stockings-August 2010

I have made TONS of these. Seriously! Last year I made about 15 for co-workers. This year I have made 10 so far for different friends. I embroider their names into the top. Several years ago I made my whole family blue and white stockings for Christmas. When I get them out I will take a picture and post it. But I can't get anything out of the Christmas closet until Thanksgiving evening...that's a rule!

For my grand-daughter-September 2010

This is going to be for my grand-daughter. I haven't decided if it is going to be for Christmas or for her birthday. Birthday comes first. The doll will have a sweater just like the one for my grand-daughter. The doll was easy to make except for the hair. I HATE the hair. It is now on her head, and not coming off, but I hate it! As for the sweater this has got to be the worst pattern ever written! I have had to fix and fiddle and change so many things in this pattern. Both for the doll sweater and the little girl sweater. I doubt that I will ever use this pattern again. But I have made notes so that if for some reason I do I will hopefully be able to follow MY directions to make the finished product useable. I hope to post a picture with the doll's sweater on when I finish it. Also I will make 2 matching berets for them to wear. So maybe some of that nasty doll hair will be covered!

Here's the finished doll...I'm so not impressed! I hate this pattern and will never do it again. I think the doll is ugly and the pattern doesn't fit her for the sweater or the hat.

Cute little wrist purse to go with the sweater and beret. I thought it turned out pretty good.

Sweater-August 2010

I made this sweater for my mother-in-law for Christmas. So I haven't given it to her. I will get her a turtleneck shirt to go under it. It is a brown varigated yarn. I thought it turned out pretty. It is from a pattern that I have used before for her. The buttons are from a tub of buttons that I found and snagged from my grandparents estate sale. Don't know if they are antique, but I'm always looking for buttons so I put them to good use.
